With everything that’s been going on lately on the job interview and contracting front, it’s almost a miracle that I found the time to get this review posted. I’m thrilled with the photos I took for the Goldfrapp show at Fox Theater this past Saturday evening and I’m hoping the words in the post can do the incendiary performance some justice.
Local OM Records recording artist Kool Karlo served up an opening DJ set via his Macbook and swiftly mixed up an eclectic set integrating everything from Smashing Pumpkins to Michael Jackson. While this got the sequin and spandex-clad crowd moving, it was obvious that they were patiently awaiting for Alison Goldfrapp, the enigmatic lead singer of the duo named in her honor, to appear onstage. A half-hour later, after an inflatable metallic arch had been assembled at the back of the stage, she appeared.
The crowd immediately erupted in a deafening roar as Alison, clad in a form-fitting gold leather fringe dress, approached the front of the stage and started belting out the lyrics to “Voicething” from their latest album, Head First. Two floor fans pitted side by side blew her golden locks off her face and amplified the fact that she is, in fact, a goddess who could still easily grace the pages of any high-end fashion publication.
Alison has been performing since the mid-nineties when she got her start as a guest on her friend Tricky’s debut album, Maxinquaye. After being introduced to composer Will Gregory in 1999, Goldfrapp was formed and five full-length albums later, she is still as vibrant, ethereal, and skilled a performer as ever. In fact, that the accompanying musicians didn’t quite match her level of charisma until they gained momentum towards the end of the second encore.
That’s right: One encore wasn’t enough and the crowd stomped in feverish desire after the first encore to indicate they couldn’t get enough of their idol – one that can even keep the momentum going when the metallic arch in the background deflated and almost derailed the onstage set-up.
It goes without saying that Goldfrapp, for the most part, put on a thrilling show. Below is the set-list:

Just saw her recently in NYC. She’s fantastic! It was a great show. Your pictures are wonderful. She looks as gorgeous as ever.
U have a audio on this concert¡¡???

Nope, sorry. My Blue Mic app. kind of died on me and I can’t record quality audio anymore. Waste of a great device, IMHO.
Plus, as we’re there as members of the press, we’d never make an unauthorized audio or video recording of any concert, let alone distribute said recording.
Good point, Gordon. I guess it’s all well and best that Dustin and I never got The National recordings off my phone.
