Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 4/21/10-4/27/10

If I could sum up this week’s biggest live Bay Area events in one nonsensical fake-Spanish declaration, it would be this: ¡YO LA COCO! Over the next few days we’ll have multiple live performances from both Conan O’Brien and Yo La Tengo, as well as an exhaustingly awesome array of other rad shows. Check out some of our favorites after the jump.

A Music Nerd’s Guide To The San Francisco International Film Festival

As a world class city, we get some pretty impressive events. Often times, these events tend to pile on top of each other, such as Fauxchella overlapping with the San Francisco International Film Festival. Of course, piling into clubs night after night can seriously wear on even the most enthused music fan, and sometimes it’s pleasant to sit in a seat in an air conditioned theater. That’s where we can serve you. There are plenty of ways to enjoy your time as a music nerd at the SF International Film Festival, and this is your guide. Ticket information can be found here.

Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 4/7/10-4/13/10

Hello, my name is Yuri, and I will be throwing a big party in Mountain View on Saturday. I know it's kind of a long drive for some of you, and it might be hard to take public transit there, but I think you should just suck it up and come. I don't care if it takes you 6 buses and 5 hours, and you have to sleep on a bench somewhere. You should come to my party!

In case you were keeping track, we are about to kick off our first week of Fauxchella. So, starting Sunday I want you to enjoy the finest music festival that doesn’t actually exist, and we will have some warm up shows listed below, in addition to a few Fauxchella recommendations.

Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 3/31/10-4/6/10

Looking for their city somewhere near Fillmore and Geary.

Our dear editor-in-chief posted this on the Spinning Platters twitter account:

SpinnPlatt Our concert calendar looks sad and lonely for the next two weeks. Someone talk us into something, please.

Which makes me realize that he needs this column more than anyone else. Just because Fauxchella is only two weeks away, doesn’t mean you can take a break!

Kid Koala is coming back to town!

After all the chaos that was Spinning Platters’ visit to Austin, TX for a bit of SXSW action, it’s time to come home and do what we did while we were in Texas, see a bunch of great live bands. Many of them we will be seeing again.  So, fire up those ear plugs and get ready to dance: Continue reading “Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 3/24/10-3/30/10”

Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 3/17/10-3/23/10

I could have chosen a really gorgeous picture of Janelle Monáe (of which there are thousands), but I haven't been able to get on the guest list for her sold-out shows at Café Du Nord this week, so I picked this one instead.

This week is a bit of a limbo for Bay Area concerts, since pretty much everyone is at SXSW. But there are still a few awesome shows, and things kick into high gear toward the end of the week. And from there, they just keep getting cooler the closer we get to our annual Coachella cash-in. Huzzah!

Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 3/3/10-3/9/10

Appearing at Bottom Of The Hill this weekend. Also opening for Vampire Weekend next month. This dude is pretty hip.

Kind of exciting… SXSW Music starts in only two weeks, which means that a whole lot of great bands are starting to tour. Expected hippest of the uber-hyped to be coming around these parts. Here’s the very beginning of it: Continue reading “Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 3/3/10-3/9/10”

Four nights of four fences with the Kronos Quartet
Four Nights, Four Fences, One Quartet. Nice.

There’s more to life than Noise Pop. Not much more, so these week’s list is going to be a bit shorter than usual, but there is still plenty to do that isn’t with the masses.

Spinning Platters Picks Some Noise Pop 2010 Shows

This one man will begin a great week of music

It’s here! Noise Pop 2010 starts today with two excellent shows, and your first opportunity to show-hop. Start at Bender’s Bar for the happy  hour with Har Mar Superstar, and then cross the bridge (or better yet, take BART) to the Fox Oakland to see Yoko Ono and the Plastic Ono Band. Many of your favorite Spinning Platters writers will be there. But then what? You’ve got a whole week of shows, and you’re not sure what to see?

How did we decide? It was simple. If one of our writers requested to cover a show, we’ve included it. Where is our staff hoping to see all of you? Read on to find out. Continue reading “Spinning Platters Picks Some Noise Pop 2010 Shows”
