Spinning Platters Presents: “How Did I Get Here?” Episode 4 with Stefan Aronsen of Balanced Breakfast

Stefan Aronsen is the creator of Balanced Breakfast, which is a group of musicians and music industry professionals that get together for breakfast to discuss how to best help each other reach the widest audience. Spinning Platters Presents: How Did I Get Here? Episode 1 with Clara Bodacious

The beauty of the pandemic is that it’s giving many of us the opportunity, between intense bouts of despair and anxiety, the space to get some projects off the ground that have been looming for a while. That brings us to How Did I Get Here?, a podcast where I talk with people that have achieved some success in some facet of entertainment, either as a performer or someone who works behind the scenes, about their path to get to where they are today. It’s still new, but I aim to get you a new one of these every two weeks!

In our first episode, I ask burlesque dancer and mastermind behind the “Kind Of Blue Revue” about her path, taking us from her beginnings in burlesque, and through her development of the “Kind Of Blue Revue.”  You can find Clara at her website, ClaraBodacious.com, and you can follow her on Instagram @clarabodacious. If you want to learn burlesque, Red Hots Burlesque’s School Of Shimmy is currently on hiatus, but keep an eye out here for classes resuming. If you want to support the venue that hosted Clara’s first time on stage, El Rio is selling t-shirts designed by local artists to help get them through the pandemic-related closure.

If you have any feedback about this episode, feel free to email me at dakin@spinningplatters.com. You can subscribe on Spotify, Pocketcasts, or Anchor (and I’d love it if you did!), with more outlets to come in the coming weeks.  If you like what you heard and want to help support this thing, feel free to Venmo me whatever tip you feel is adequate @Dakin-Hardwick.  Thanks for listening!

You Made it Weird is a podcast where comedian host Pete Holmes talks at great length with his guest about love, sex and god, mixing in a lot about life in general. It can often get spiritual and deep which makes it a little more interesting and introspective than other comedian led interview style podcasts. But the live format is a little different, focusing more on the weird bits of life side than the deep talks about sex, love and spirituality. Which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. With five guests to get through in two hours and a theater full of people it is hard to get to the intimate places the podcast can get to, but it does allow for a lot more amazing jokes. SF Sketchfest Review: The Fogelnest Files on 2/7/14

fogelnest files

Last night, Jake Fogelnest hosted his podcast, The Fogelnest Files, live for Sketchfest with guest Chris Gethard and they talked, as possibly only they can, about Manhattan Public Access Cable Shows. And it might go down as the best night of my Sketchfest. The Fogelnest Files is a podcast where they play some YouTube videos and discuss them. It might not sound like something really special, or even the best idea for a podcast, but it was a real honor to have two such passionate people talk sincerely about a bizarre art form that they so dearly love. It’s not often enough that I get to see that level of enthusiasm with that much clarity to the way it was presented. Of course, it was also a weirdly nostalgic evening for me, and left me with the strange longing and excitement of a teenager. But I’m going to save that personal stuff for the end and just start off by attempting to explain what a wonderful show this was. SF Sketchfest Review: Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction on 1/31/2014

competitive-erotic-fan-fiction2

Competitive Erotic Fan Fiction with Bryan Cook is the funniest, dirtiest, podcast I’ve ever seen live. Five comedians are asked to write a fan fiction piece on anything they want before the show and present it while five other comedians get suggestions from the audience and have to write a fan fiction piece on the spot. Each group has a winner crowned by the audience and everyone leaves, amused, maybe slightly disturbed, and possibly  sore from laughing. At least that’s how I felt last night. In Tribute To Steve Brodsky (RIP): Spinning Platters Podcast Episode 16 – #twitterstalking

Sometimes being a band manager is tough.

Spinning Platters is re-running our 2010 podcast with the late Steve Brodsky. He passed away last night after a hearty battle against Acute Myeloid Leukemia.  He was the manager for many great bands, such as Wallpaper., Midi Matilda, Orgone, and AB & The Sea. He was also a really great guy and a very early supporter of Spinning Platters. The Bay Area music scene lost a very important, kind, and funny man. This podcast was loads of fun to record, and we will miss him dearly.

And if you haven’t registered to be a bone marrow donor, please do so. It only takes a few minutes to potentially save a life!

Spinning Platters Podcast – SXSW Wednesday Review

He killed it.

The Spinning Platters crew was way too tired to do a podcast on Wednesday night/Thursday morning but we did one anyway because we’re troopers. This one gets a little snippy as we disagree about the pronunciation of a few things, and we argue over the use of the phrase “killed it.” You can subscribe by clicking the button to the left or you can listen below.
