Outside Lands 2024: 21 Instant Gig Reviews

I really love Outside Lands. It’s funny because my heart genuinely lies in the world of Punk, and something this big *shouldn’t* be my thing, but I love being able to disconnect from the outside world and just take in music with strangers and friends, and the best part- strangers that became friends that I only see at this event. And, yes, a fellow writer recently referred to Outside Lands attendees as “norms” (I saw what you did there, Alan!), but, man, I had such a wonderful, blissful time, dancing with strangers, eating amazing food, enjoying nearly perfect weather, and taking in some amazing music. I honestly can’t wait for next year, and hope I’m able to keep coming to the park for many years to come. Continue reading “Outside Lands 2024: 21 Instant Gig Reviews”

Outside Lands 2024: Top 10 From The Bottom Half Of The Poster

The craziest thing about this year’s Outside Lands poster is that, when it was first printed, Shaboozey was on the 4th line from the bottom. Obviously, having a worldwide #1 hit means that he’s doing just fine; here are 10 MORE acts from the bottom half of the poster for you to watch out for.

The full lineup is here, the schedule is here so you can start plotting your weekend, and limited tickets are still available: Continue reading “Outside Lands 2024: Top 10 From The Bottom Half Of The Poster”

OUTSIDE LANDS NIGHT SHOWS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED

Oh, man. It feels like 2024 is just flying by, and Outside Lands will be here before you know it. I know many of you are still trying to reconcile the fact that Tyler, The Creator, won’t be returning this year. However, who wouldn’t want to experience the literal song of the Summer in a giant field in the middle of Summer? In the meantime, Outside Lands have announced their Night Shows, which means it’s coming up soon.

And, well, things are looking pretty epic. Sturgill Simpson at The Independent?!?! Romy of The xx at 1015 Folsom?!?!?! And Corinne Bailey Rae bringing her Black Rainbows show to Bimbo’s will be magic. Outside Lands ticket holders get the first crack at tickets on 6/27 at 10 am. Tickets for night shows are here, and if you need a presale password, buy your Outside Lands passes here before they are gone!  Continue reading “OUTSIDE LANDS NIGHT SHOWS HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED”

OUTSIDE LANDS SINGLE DAY LINEUPS!!!

FINALLY! Single-day breakdowns are up for you all to get anxious about conflicts. Like, am I really going to have to pick between Tyler, The Creator and The Postal Service? This whole thing looks amazing, once again, and it’s really a nice, even spread of acts all three days. On top of this, they’ve also added a Latin music stage called CASA BACARDI, featuring B-Side Brujas, Chulita Vinyl Club, and MUCH MORE!

Single Day Tickets go on sale Thursday, May 30th (TOMORROW!) at 10 am! Full text of each day’s lineups below: Continue reading “OUTSIDE LANDS SINGLE DAY LINEUPS!!!”

OUTSIDE LANDS 2024 LINE UP DROP!!!!

My initial “hot take” on the Outside Lands 2024 lineup? It’s by far and away the most interesting and diverse of the 2024 “big fests.” First, the top line… Not only do we have Tyler, The Creator, one of the most intriguing acts in all of hip hop, as well as modern New Wave hitmakers, The Killers, we’ve got Sturgill Simpson, a leader of the modern Outlaw Country movement, and an all-around unexpected twist. He also hasn’t done a headlining tour since the plague broke out! Below him? Well, an All-Country set from Post Malone, a very rare performance by the legendary Grace Jones, and the folks behind SubPop’s selling record, The Postal Service. What else am I excited about? Well, there’s the Regina George herself, Renee Rapp. Shoegaze innovators Slowdive. Killer Mike. Tyla, of course, will help us remember to hydrate. Punkers Men I Trust will be there despite the fact that there aren’t any. Australian punks Amyl & The Sniffers for a little danger element. SP favorites K. Flay and Corinne Bailey Rae are both hot off the best records of their storied careers. And for those who need some UK Twee with a side of UK goth, there’s The Last Dinner Party. And, most importantly, if you need someone to throw your underwear at, Idris Elba is, indeed, DJ’ing the SOMA Stage, which has been moved outside because, for those who went last year, we really did blow the roof off the sucker.

Tickets are on sale 4/24 at 10 am for GA, GA+, VIP, and, of course, the super swank Golden Gate Club, which I SWEAR I’ll visit someday. More fest details here, and the lineup is below the jump: Continue reading “OUTSIDE LANDS 2024 LINE UP DROP!!!!”

GOLDEN GATE PARK CONCERT SET FOR WEEKEND AFTER OUTSIDE LANDS

While we patiently await the Outside Lands lineup to be presented to our eager eyeballs, the good folks at Another Planet have treated us to probably the most insane single-day lineup of heavy music I could imagine. We’ve got Australian goth duo VOWWS, Swedish punk troublemakers Viagra Boys, and the legendary The Mars Volta. Coheadlining are Sac’s finest exports, Deftones and System Of A Down, playing one of only two shows in 2024!

Tickets are on sale Friday, April 12th at 10 am RIGHT HERE! Continue reading “GOLDEN GATE PARK CONCERT SET FOR WEEKEND AFTER OUTSIDE LANDS”

OUTSIDE LANDS EAGER BEAVER TICKETS ON SALE TOMORROW!!!!!

It’s funny- it feels like we are waiting longer and longer every year for Outside Lands to kick off… BUT! It’s been about the same time every year. Just everyone else is announcing earlier. That being said, I look forward to this weekend every year. I love being able to sort of fully disconnect from my day-to-day existence (with proper preparation to make sure my responsibilities will be covered.)

Anyways, Outside Lands is August 9th-11th this year, and Eager Beaver tickets, which is the cheapest way to get in the door, go on sale 4/3/24 at 10am. GA are starting at $425, GA+ (Expedited Entry & Exclusive Bathrooms!) start at $665, VIP starts at $965, and the ultra-swank Golden Gate Club starts at $4,895.  Past Outside Lands coverage can be found here

Spinning Platters Interview: Izzy Bizu: Direct From Outside Lands

Guess what?!? This is the first time I’ve ever recorded an interview with the intent of the video being seen and not heard. And it was with the incredibly talented and friendly Izzy Bizu! Her most recent EP is a horn-laden bit of R&B confection called Flower Power and can be enjoyed RIGHT NOW from your favorite streaming service here

I also took some photos with her from the Outside Lands Press Tent:

Outside Lands 2023: 22 Instant Set Reviews

Happy 15th Birthday, Outside Lands! I’ve been to 13 out of 15, which are pretty good odds if you ask me! And despite this being the “year of the throwing stuff at bands,” this may have been the kindest, friendliest Outside Lands yet! I don’t think I’ve had more lovely conversations with strangers in three days at any other point in my life. Folks were consistently watching out for each other on the ground, working together to get medical attention for folks quickly, even at the risk of losing their spot, sharing food and water, and all around being grade-A music fans. I had the most amazing Creole Garlic Noodles of my life. I had the worst vegan experiment of my life- a veggie lamb slider (I won’t tag the restaurant here). I had plenty of Rocko’s Ice Cream Tacos because Outside Lands isn’t complete without at least 1 taco a day.
