10 Quick Questions with The Postmarks

Postmarks

Last week on our podcast, I mentioned that I am really enjoying The Postmarks, my “favorite Scottish band from Florida.”  It turns out that they are either fans of the Spinning Platters podcast or they search for themselves online, because the next thing I knew, I was emailing them 10 Quick Questions.  I also plan to check them out this Tuesday night the 29th at Hotel Utah, and hope to see you all there.  But first, on to the questions and answers from lead singer Tim Yehezkely:

Spinning Platters:  How would you describe your music to a friend who hasn’t heard you yet?

Tim Yehezkely:  Cinematic, retro pop. The new album is full orchestral sounds and some poppy songs as well.

SP: Do you still have “day jobs?”  If so, what kind?

Tim: Yes. Chris and Brian do graphic design; Jon still dj’s once in awhile in South Florida; Jeff I’m not sure what he does; I’m a full time pharmacy student (taking a LOA to tour this year).

SP: What are your favorite places to play?

Tim: San Francisco is always fun and we seem to have great fans in New York and DC too! I also always enjoy performing in Orlando as well because we have a big following there.

How about the worst place to play? Which has to be Baltimore but only because I think the club we played didn’t really promote the show well.

SP: What are your favorite guilty pleasures?

Tim: Ice cream, but it doesn’t make me feel guilty so I guess that doesn’t count…?

SP: How do you push the evolution of your sound?

Tim: We don’t push it, we do what inspires us.

SP: Who are you listening to now that you’d like everyone to know about?

Tim: Robert Gomez, the new Brookville album, Broken Lights, and the new album by The Gossip.

SP: I really enjoy By the Numbers.  What might you cover if you did numbers 13 through 24 as a sequel?

Tim: Glad you enjoyed it… but come on, are you serious?  It was hard enough to narrow down the list to the 12 on By The Numbers.

SP: Who are some of your favorite bands to play with?

Tim: We had a lot of fun on the road with Wild Light (we played about 2 weeks of shows with them) and we just did a show with Peter, Bjorn and John which was really great too.

SP: Anything we should be correcting on your Wikipedia page?

Tim: No it’s fine! I wouldn’t change a thing.

SP: Here’s your big chance. Sell our readers on your live show.

Tim: We don’t get over to the West Coast too often, so catch us while you can! We will be playing songs from our new album Memoirs at the End of the World and our live sound has evolved over the years so I think are latest set is going to surprise a lot of fans.
