Hiatus. hi·a·tus. noun. A pause or gap in a sequence, series, or process.
Staind, The Gaslight Anthem, The Academy Is…, A Static Lullaby, Armor For Sleep, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, System of a Down, Underoath… just a few examples of bands that are on a hiatus, have taken one, or broke up and then reformed (kind of the same thing as a hiatus). After a 4-year hiatus, in which all 4 of its members worked on other musical projects, Disturbed is back.
The difference with some of the other bands is that Disturbed are picking up exactly where they left off. It’s almost as if their 4 year break didn’t even happen. They are currently on a sold-out theater tour, go directly into headlining a handful of US festivals, followed by a couple of weeks of huge European festivals, and then a 6-week co-headlining US summer amphitheater tour… what hiatus?!
On Wednesday, March 16, Disturbed brought a 53′ truck full of equipment, lights, and production to the 1,200 capacity Fillmore in San Francisco. The fans who were lucky enough to get tickets (when they went on-sale over 6 months ago) saw a band that will easily reclaim their spot at the top of the hard rock landscape. Their 90-minute set consisted of songs from 5 of their 6 records, as well as 1 song from Dracula 2000, and quite a few cover songs (most were in a medley format).
By the end of the night, it definitely appears that their fans did actually find what they were looking for. They purchased these tickets to see if Disturbed could still deliver after a 4 years hiatus from performing these songs, and by the smiles on all the faces leaving The Fillmore after the show, it looks like the band delivered!
The next time Disturbed returns to the Bay Area will be the final show of their summer tour at the Pavilion in Concord, CA, and it would be a safe bet to say that every person at The Fillmore will be there.
