Old Crow Medicine Show with Molly Tuttle: A Definition of HOME

When listening to Molly Tuttle and the Golden Highway, your entire person will elevate to a higher positivity.  The upbeat, quick rhythms with elated smiles between the band and the audience were contagious.  During a few short pauses of confession and conversation, she referenced San Francisco as her home.  Upon each return, she witnessed the changes and felt the nostalgia for the original San Francisco and California Dream.  This is the origin of the “San Francisco Blues.”  Of the entire set, my personal favorite was “Crooked Tree” with the stand-out lyrics “who am I to wish I wasn’t the way I am.”  All of the songs appeared to resonate with a strong positivity encouraging self-appreciation and acceptance. Show Review: Railroad Revival Tour (Mumford & Sons) at Oakland Middle Shoreline Park, 4/21/2011

The Railroad Revival Tour is a concept tour package where one of the main conceits is that all the bands have equal billing and play equal set lengths. That’s a nice thing to say, but the tickets sold lightning quick due to the recent boom of success of Mumford & Sons. While they weren’t officially the headliner, the singing along told another story. But by the end of the show, they convinced me that this was, indeed, a true group package. Show Review: Dave Rawlings Machine at The Fillmore, 2/9/10

There’s an amazing thing that  happens when bluegrass musicians get together. Anyone can be in the band at any time playing any song, and everyone will know the whole thing. This happens in jazz and blues, but you’re not going to see a bunch of indie bands trading licks and verses on a flawless version of “Oh Comely” without a little bit of rehearsal. So when Dave Rawlings showed up at The Fillmore with a tight five-piece combo, was there any question the night would end with twice as many musicians on stage?
