Spinning Platters Weekly Guide to Bay Area Concerts, 4/28/10-5/4/10

by Dakin Hardwick on April 28, 2010

Hello, I'm opening up for Lupe Fiasco. How are you?

Thank, Jason LeRoy, for stepping in last week with the list. I hope you all were kept entertained. As for this week, well, here’s what I want you to do:

Wednesday, April 28th

Aesop (w/ Live Band), Venture Capitalists, The New Humans at Bottom Of The Hill

Aesop is one of the most talented MC’s in the disturbingly talented local hip hop group The Living Legends. At tonight’s show, he’s showing off his solo skills alongside a ripping live band and some fantastic openers.

Days Of The New, Nova, Red Sunday, Scott Rose, Cherry Nova at Avalon Nightclub – Santa Clara

Thursday, April 29th

The Limousines, Butterfly Bones at 330 Ritch St (Popscene)

A lot of people complain that Popscene is just a place to see shows, not a place to dance. Well, we might not get many full fledged DJ dance nights these days, we do get a local band that sounds enough like New Order to get that dance party going pretty hardcore.

Javelin, Maus Haus, The Splinters at Uptown Nightclub

My cat has some very selective taste in music. I was playing her Javelin and she ran across the room to play with the speakers. That’s a glowing review, if I’ve ever known one. Come out to Oakland to enjoy some good dancing!

Friday, April 30th

Rogue Wave, Man/Miracle, JBM at The Fillmore

I’ve never really cared for Rogue Wave, but this new record is of full of songs that have a new life to them, as well as a heightened sense of creativity. This, probably their biggest headlining hometown show to date, will be  one of the most exciting shows of their career.

Shpongle, ADHK, Hallucinogen at Regency Ballroom

Saturday, May 1st

Broken Social Scene, Julie Doiron at The Fillmore

Insanity + melody + Canada + tons of people on stage. Broken Social Scene are always a good time.

Maus Haus, Rafter, White Clouds at Bottom Of The Hill

The Antlers, Phantogram at The Independent

Sunday, May 2nd

Take a night off. Maybe rescue some kittens or something.

Monday, May 3rd

Devin The Dude at Shattuck Down Low

Typical stoner, shows up to Berkeley two weeks after 4/20… But, seriously, this guy is superbly gifted, and his lyrical skill is so good that it may make one rethink the theory that pot kills brain cells.

Tuesday, May 4th

Heartless Bastards, Hacienda, Amy Cook at The Independent

Surprising things happen, like a petite blonde woman getting signed to Fat Possum Records. How does this happen? By playing some of the fuzziest, heaviest blues rock you will every hear.

Lupe Fiasco, B.o.B., Dosage at The Warfield
