Appearing Saturday with Thursday. Huh? Yeah, that's right.

October is upon us, which means everyone is playing all the time. I guess it really is Rocktober! Lotsa great shows this month, all on the same day. Happy decision making!!

Tuesday, October 6th

Billy Bragg, Lauren Shera at The Great American Music Hall, 8 PM

If you missed Billy Bragg at Hardly Strictly, you’ve got a second chance to get your angry left wing folkie on.

The Cave Singers, Lightening Dust at The Independent, 8 PM

School Of Seven Bells, Warpaint, Phantogram at Slim’s, 8 PM

Wednesday, October 7th

Andrew WK & The Calder Quartet at The Swedish American Hall, 8 PM

Andrew WK is, in fact, a classically trained pianist. This evening of music will be very proper and very beautiful. That’s why this show is going to be all out insanity.

People Under The Stairs, Kenan Bell at Slim’s, 9 PM

Thursday, October 8th

‘An Evening with Fran Healy and Andy Dunlop: A Chronological Acoustical Journey Through the Travis Back Catalogue: Laugh Out Loud Stories, Scottish Accents, Handsome Scottish Men, Naked Torsos’ at The Swedish American Hall, 7:30 PM

The funniest stand up comedian I have ever seen is Fran Healy. So, this show is going to focus almost entirely on storytelling, which means it will be the best Travis show ever that Travis didn’t show up for.

Teenage Jesus & The Jerks (Lydia Lunch!), Burmese, T.I.T.S. at Slim’s, 8 PM

Friday, October 9th

Foxtails Brigade, Kacey Johansing, Honeycomb at Blue Six, 8 PM

Beautiful voices and wistful melodies are not all that link the unique musical storytellers Foxtails Brigade, Kacey Johansing (formerly of Parasol) and Honeycomb (formerly Honeybody Moonbee), who are performing together Friday at Bluesix. The three also share a common thread in themes surrounding the bizarre and the intrinsically romantic. Killer bees, hungry flies and porcelain dolls that come to life are just a few of the colorful characters you’ll find in the storybook lyrics of headliners Foxtails Brigade, for example.  A beckoning break from typical indie-rock arrangements, the bands also all feature instrumentation more deeply rooted in vintage craftsmanship– violins, cellos, ghostly bells, and classical guitars make up the evening’s musical pallett . The sweet and surreal will collide as this dazzling line up of experimental songbirds enchant San Francisco on October 9th.

Ingrid Michelson, Matthew Perryman Jones at The Great American Music Hall, 9 PM

Ingrid Michelson is best known as the really pretty girl that writes songs for TV shows. While both of those things are true, her music is much more intelligent and complex many of her peers who will not be named.

A Hawk and A Hacksaw, Damon & Naomi at The Independent, 9 PM

Jason Mraz, Brett Dennen, Robert Francis, Bushwalla at The Greek Theater, 7 PM

Saturday, October 10th

Har Mar Superstar, Heavenly States, Hot Tub, Somehow At Sea at The Uptown Nightclub, 10 PM

Har Mar Superstar. If you don’t know about him by now, you will be disgusted by him. In a nutshell, imagine if Neil Diamond and Ron Jeremy had a baby that was possessed by Justin Timberlake. Then, after you finish puking, come to the show, you will have the time of your life!

La Plebe, Get Dead, Compton SF, The Keeners, and Punk Rock n Schlock Karaoke (in the backroom), Annie’s Social Club, 8:30 PM

Sunday, October 11th

Thursday, The Fall Of Troy, The Dear Hunter, Touche` Amore at Slim’s, 7:30 PM

A lot of people have spoken very negatively about Thursday. Why? Because we are trained to be embarrassed by screamo. And, when it’s done poorly, it’s bad. When Thursday do it, it’s dark and deep and layered. They are the screamo Radiohead, and deserve a chance.

Mensclub, Short Dogs Grow, The Street Lyons, John Thaxton at Bottom Of The Hill, 1 PM

Monday, October 12th

NoMeansNo, Triclops!, The Pack AD, at The Independent, 8 PM

NoMeansNo are a prog-punk band from Vancouver, BC. Really, that’s all you need to know. They are super intelligent, and some of the best musicians to come out of the Alternative Tentacles record label, which had some pretty great musicians come out of it.

Mono, Maserati at The Great American Music Hall, 8 PM
